The Short-Term Residence Permit L (Kurzaufenthaltsbewilligung L) is designed for foreign nationals who intend to work in Liechtenstein for a temporary period of up to 12 months. This permit is primarily intended for highly qualified professionals, such as managers and specialists, whose expertise is required by a Liechtenstein-based company. Because Liechtenstein maintains a highly restrictive immigration policy, applicants must typically prove that their specific skills could not be sourced from the local or EEA/Swiss labor markets. The permit is tied to a specific employer and is subject to strict annual quotas set by the government, making it a competitive and limited option for third-country nationals.

This permit is not intended for permanent settlement and is generally issued for a specific project or temporary employment contract. While it can be extended in exceptional circumstances for up to an additional six months, it does not automatically lead to long-term residency.
