Overview

Long-stay visa for language study at language institutes, vocational training, and other non-degree educational programs.

The D-4 General Training Visa is a versatile visa category intended for individuals who wish to engage in education or training that does not lead to a formal academic degree. The most common sub-category is the D-4-1, which is specifically for students attending Korean language programs at university-affiliated language centers. Beyond language study, the D-4 visa also covers technical or skill-based training at specialized academies, internships at foreign-invested companies, and research activities at non-academic institutions. It is designed for those who need a structured environment to develop specific skills or proficiency in the Korean language before potentially transitioning to other visa types.

Applicants for the D-4 visa must provide a clear training plan and proof of enrollment from a recognized institution. Financial requirements are generally lower than those for the D-2 visa but remain a critical component of the application. The visa is typically issued for an initial period of up to two years, depending on the length of the training program. It is important to note that the D-4 visa is not intended for those seeking long-term employment; rather, it is a pathway for personal development, cultural immersion, and skill acquisition. Participants must maintain regular attendance and adhere to the terms of their training program to keep their visa status valid.
