Citizens of 70+ countries enter visa-free for up to 90 days; others apply through a Japanese consulate or the JAPAN eVISA system.
Visa applicants pay 3,000 JPY (single-entry), 6,000 JPY (double/multiple-entry), or 700 JPY (transit); processing takes 5 working days under normal conditions. Work — including remote — is strictly prohibited. The visa is non-renewable with no pathway to permanent residence.
