Temporary Visitor

The Temporary Visitor is Japan's short-term residence status for foreign nationals arriving for tourism, family visits, conferences, or brief business meetings, with no paid work permitted. Citizens of 70+ countries enter visa-free for up to 90 days; others apply through a Japanese consulate or the JAPAN eVISA system.

Visa applicants pay 3,000 JPY (single-entry), 6,000 JPY (double/multiple-entry), or 700 JPY (transit); processing takes 5 working days under normal conditions. Work — including remote — is strictly prohibited. The visa is non-renewable with no pathway to permanent residence.

This visa is ideal for travellers making a short leisure or business trip to Japan who do not need — or are non-qualifying for — the visa-free entry program.
