Overview

The Higher Education residence permit is the standard pathway for non-EU/EEA students who wish to pursue a full-time degree or participate in an exchange program at a recognized Danish university or college. This permit is essential for those planning to stay in Denmark for more than three months to study. It is designed to ensure that international students are fully integrated into the Danish educational system, requiring them to maintain active student status and demonstrate sufficient financial means to cover their living expenses throughout their academic journey.

Beyond the right to study, this permit often includes specific work rights, allowing students to work a limited number of hours per month to support themselves. Upon successful completion of their degree, many students are also granted a post-study job-seeking period, which provides a transition phase to look for employment in the Danish labor market. By facilitating this path, Denmark aims to attract international students who can contribute to the country's intellectual and professional landscape, while ensuring that the educational standards and immigration requirements are strictly maintained.
