Overview

One-year Brazilian residence visa for remote workers earning USD 1,500/month from foreign sources or holding USD 18,000 in savings, renewable for another year.

The Digital Nomad Visa (Autorização de Residência — Nômade Digital) was introduced in 2022 to address the growing global trend of remote work, allowing professionals to live in Brazil while maintaining employment ties outside the country. The visa is governed by regulations such as Normative Resolution No. 45/2021, which established the legal basis for this residence authorization. It fills a gap in the Brazilian immigration system by providing a clear, legal pathway for remote workers who contribute to the local economy through their spending and presence without competing for jobs in the local Brazilian labor market.

This visa is designed for professionals who can perform their job duties remotely using information and communication technologies. To qualify, applicants must be employed by or provide services to a company located outside of Brazil and must demonstrate a minimum monthly income of USD 1,500 or possess at least USD 18,000 in savings. A key distinctive feature is that it explicitly prohibits working for Brazilian employers, ensuring the applicant's professional activities remain tied to foreign entities. The visa is valid for one year and is renewable, making it an ideal option for remote workers seeking to experience Brazil's culture and lifestyle.
