Overview

For foreign nationals undertaking short-term internship programs in Bangladesh, valid for three months, non-extendable and non-convertible to other visa categories.

The Bangladesh Intern Visa was established as a strategic mechanism to facilitate professional development and knowledge exchange between Bangladesh and the international community, operating under the broader framework of the country’s evolving immigration policy and the Visa Policy of 2019. Recognizing the growing need for specialized human capital in an increasingly globalized economy, the government introduced this category to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical, field-based experience within the nation’s burgeoning industrial and development sectors. By formalizing the entry of foreign interns, the policy provides a legal pathway for individuals to contribute to local projects while gaining unique insights into the South Asian market. This visa serves as a critical instrument for international NGOs, multinational corporations, and research institutions operating within Bangladesh, ensuring that short-term professional engagements are conducted with full regulatory compliance and oversight, thereby fostering institutional capacity building and cross-border collaboration without disrupting the domestic labor market.

The ideal applicant for this visa is a highly motivated individual, typically a recent graduate or a student currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program, who has secured a structured internship placement with a recognized entity in Bangladesh. While the visa is broad enough to cover diverse fields—ranging from sustainable development and public health to engineering and information technology—it is specifically designed for those seeking a short-term, intensive immersion rather than long-term employment. What makes this visa distinctive is its rigid, non-extendable nature; it is strictly intended for temporary professional exposure, as it cannot be converted into a work permit or any other residency category, ensuring that the applicant’s stay remains focused on their specific internship objectives. Applicants must demonstrate financial self-sufficiency with a minimum savings threshold of USD 11,904 and provide proof of comprehensive health insurance, underscoring the government’s priority on the applicant’s welfare and fiscal responsibility. With a flat fee of USD 190 and a fixed three-month duration, the visa offers a streamlined, albeit temporary, gateway for global talent to engage with Bangladesh’s vibrant professional landscape, provided they adhere strictly to the non-renewable terms of their stay.
