VWP/ESTA — Visa Waiver Program (ESTA)

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) lets citizens of 42 participating countries visit the US for tourism or business for up to 90 days without a traditional visa. Travelers apply online through ESTA — an automated pre-screening system — for a $40.27 fee before departure.

Stays are capped at 90 days and cannot be extended, changed to another visa status, or used for employment. VWP travelers waive the right to contest an immigration officer's admission decision at the port of entry. ESTA authorization is valid for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner.
