Overview

For foreign workers performing services of an exceptional nature relating to a cooperative research and development project administered by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

The H-1B2 is a US nonimmigrant visa for foreign professionals performing services of exceptional merit on DoD cooperative research and development projects. A bachelor's degree and a verification letter from the DoD project manager are required. No labor condition application is needed.

Each petition covers up to 5 years, with a 10-year maximum total stay via 2-year extensions. The $60,000 annual salary floor applies. Only 100 H-1B2 holders may be in the US concurrently. Dual intent is permitted. Spouses join on H-4 and may work if the principal holds an approved I-140.

This visa is ideal for foreign researchers and scientists with a confirmed DoD project role who need a renewable long-term work status with a path to permanent residence.
