Overview
Long-term entry visa required for stays exceeding 90 days. Issued in connection with temporary or permanent residence permit applications.
The National Type D visa is required for any stay in Slovakia exceeding 90 days. It is always issued in connection with a temporary or permanent residence permit application. The specific type and duration depend on the purpose of stay (employment, studies, business, family reunion, special activity, or research).
Annual Visa Allocation
5,000 visas per year
The annual quota of 5,000 national visas is established under Government Regulation No. 113/2023 Coll. for the interest of the Slovak Republic. This includes a specific allocation of 3,000 visas for highly qualified workers and 2,000 for skilled workers in shortage occupations (including bus and truck drivers). The quota applies to citizens of 19 specified countries. General National Visas (Type D) issued for the purpose of submitting a residence permit application under Section 15(1)(b) of the Act on Residence of Foreigners are not subject to a statutory annual cap, though they are limited by embassy processing capacity.
