Overview

This permit is a specific type of temporary residence for the purpose of employment, governed by the EU ICT Directive (2014/66/EU). It allows non-EU nationals to be transferred from a non-EU entity to a Slovak branch or subsidiary of the same corporate group for professional training.

The Intra-Corporate Transfer (ICT) – Trainee Employee permit allows non-EU nationals to transfer to a Slovak branch of their company for professional training. It is strictly regulated under the EU ICT Directive and requires a pre-existing employment relationship of at least three months. This permit is intended for career development and does not provide a pathway to permanent residency.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Employed by a company outside the EU for at least 3 months immediately preceding the transfer.

Hold a university degree.

Possess an agreement on professional preparation for career development or obtaining knowledge in business management techniques.

The Slovak host entity must be part of the same corporate group.

Application Process

Vacancy Reporting: The Slovak host company must report the vacancy to the local Office of Labour, Social Affairs, and Family at least 20 working days before the application.

Submission: The applicant must submit the application in person at the Slovak embassy in their country of citizenship or residence.

Interview: An interview will be conducted at the embassy for a preliminary assessment.

Entry: If approved, a national visa (Type D) may be required to enter Slovakia to collect the residence document.

Post-Arrival: Report to the Foreign Police within 3 working days of arrival and undergo a medical examination (if required).
