Overview

Permit for Singapore permanent residents and some pass holders to maintain PR status while traveling abroad. Prevents automatic cancellation of PR upon departure. Can be single or multiple entry.

The Singapore Re-Entry Permit (REP) is issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority to let Permanent Residents travel abroad without losing PR status. A PR who leaves the country without a valid REP has their residency automatically revoked and is treated as a foreign visitor on return.

The permit is single- or multiple-entry, typically valid up to 5 years, at SGD 10 per year (or part thereof). Renewal is filed online via ICA's e-REP service within three months of expiry and usually completes within a week. Renewal is not guaranteed: ICA weighs employment, CPF contributions, and local ties.

This visa is ideal for established Singapore Permanent Residents who need to travel or work overseas while preserving their right to return and reside in Singapore.

PUBLISHED REQUIREMENTS

Must hold a valid travel document (passport) with at least three months' validity.

Must maintain strong economic and social ties to Singapore.

Must have a valid REP to travel out of Singapore and return as a PR.

From 1 December 2025, PRs outside Singapore without a valid REP must apply for one within 180 days of departure (or REP expiry) or PR status is automatically lost.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Completed application form (Form 6).

Valid passport (at least 3 months validity).

Singapore Blue Identity Card.

Proof of employment in Singapore (e.g., recent payslips, employer letter).

Latest IRAS tax assessments.

Central Provident Fund (CPF) contribution statements.

Academic qualifications (if applicable).

Marriage/birth certificates (if applying for family).

Advantages & Considerations

Key Benefits

  • Allows PRs to travel internationally while retaining their permanent residency status.
  • Provides legal assurance of re-entry into Singapore as a resident.
  • Relatively low cost (SGD 10 per year).

Worth Knowing

  • Failure to hold a valid REP when leaving Singapore results in the automatic loss of PR status.
  • Renewal is not guaranteed; ICA assesses ties to Singapore, economic contributions, and residency duration.
  • Extended periods spent overseas without strong justification may negatively impact renewal chances.

Application Process

1

Check PR status: Verify you hold valid Singapore PR status

2

Prepare passport: Ensure passport is valid for intended travel (at least three months' validity)

3

Apply online: Submit online application through the ICA e-Service (e-REP) within three months prior to expiry

4

Pay fees: Pay the fee of SGD 10 per year (or part thereof) of the approved REP within 14 days of approval

5

Receive approval: REP application is typically processed within one week

6

Print permit: Print the electronic REP (Form 7) and keep it with your passport
