Overview

Temporary protection for people fleeing the war in Ukraine. Available to those who left Ukraine after February 24, 2022, or had international protection in Ukraine. Valid until March 4, 2026 (or 2027 if extended). Full work rights from age 16.

The Temporary Protection Directive provides rapid protection to Ukrainian nationals and other beneficiaries of international protection fleeing the Russian invasion. The EU activated this directive for the first time in 2022, providing harmonized protection across EU member states including Sweden.
