This visa is ideal for students enrolled in the Erasmus+ program, short-term university semesters, or specialized technical training courses. It also caters to researchers and interns who have a fixed-term engagement with a Portuguese institution. Unlike the D4 Residency Visa, which is intended for full degree programs, the Temporary Stay Visa is specifically tailored for those with a defined, short-term academic or professional objective that will be completed within a single year.

A distinguishing feature of this visa is that it grants the holder the right to stay in Portugal for the entire duration of their program without the need to apply for a formal Residence Permit (Título de Residência) at the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA). It functions as a multi-entry authorization, allowing the holder to travel within the Schengen Area while maintaining their primary base in Portugal for the duration of their studies.
