Portugal's E11 temporary stay visa lets remote workers and freelancers based abroad live in Portugal for up to one year while continuing to earn from non-Portuguese employers or clients. It is a national visa allowing multiple entries during its validity, and is processed at a Portuguese consulate before travel.
Applicants must show an average monthly income over the prior three months of at least four times the Portuguese minimum wage (around EUR 3,680 per month in 2026), plus proof of fiscal residence, accommodation, health insurance, and a clean criminal record. The consular fee is EUR 110, and decisions are typically issued within about 30 calendar days.
This visa is ideal for digital nomads who want a legal, sub-one-year base in Portugal without committing to the longer D8 residency pathway or applying for an AIMA residence permit.
