Airport Transit Visa

The Portuguese Airport Transit Visa, officially known as the Visto de Escala Aeroportuária (Type A), is a specialized permit established under the Schengen Visa Code. Its primary purpose is to manage the transit of third-country nationals through the international zones of Portuguese airports during stopovers between two non-Schengen countries. This visa serves as a security measure to monitor travelers from specific jurisdictions who are not eligible for visa-free transit but do not intend to enter the national territory of Portugal or the wider Schengen Area. It is ideal for international passengers whose flight itineraries involve a connection in a Portuguese airport and who hold nationalities listed in Annex IV of the Schengen Visa Code or specific national lists.

The visa is specifically designed for those who will remain in the international transit area of the airport without passing through passport control.
