Overview

Short-term work authorization for foreign nationals performing temporary assignments of up to six months while on a tourist visa, issued by the Bureau of Immigration without requiring an AEP.

The Special Work Permit (SWP) is a short-term authorization issued by the Bureau of Immigration for foreign nationals who intend to perform temporary services in the Philippines without establishing a formal, long-term employment relationship. It is specifically designed for consultants, specialists, service contractors, visiting professionals, and international artists or performers who are in the country for a limited engagement. The SWP is not a visa itself but rather a permit that allows the holder to engage in gainful work while maintaining their status as a temporary visitor (tourist). It is typically valid for an initial period of three months and can be extended for an additional three months.

This permit is an essential tool for businesses and organizations that require the expertise of foreign professionals for specific, time-bound projects that do not necessitate a full 9(g) work visa. Because it is tied to a tourist visa, the applicant must ensure their authorized stay in the country remains valid throughout the duration of the permit. The SWP process is streamlined compared to long-term work visas, making it a practical solution for short-term deployments. It ensures that foreign nationals contributing to Philippine-based projects remain compliant with immigration laws while providing the flexibility needed for temporary, specialized assignments.
