Overview

Permanent residence for MERCOSUR nationals who have completed temporary residence, under bilateral agreements with Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

The MERCOSUR Permanent Residence visa is the logical progression for individuals who have already established themselves in Peru under the MERCOSUR Temporary Residence framework. It is governed by the same regional agreements that promote integration and mobility within the bloc. This status fills the gap between temporary stay and full citizenship, offering a stable, long-term legal foundation for those who have demonstrated their commitment to living in Peru by completing the initial two-year temporary period, thereby ensuring a seamless transition for long-term residents.

This visa is exclusively for nationals of MERCOSUR member and associate states who have successfully held the temporary residence permit for the required duration. It is designed for those who intend to make Peru their long-term home, whether they are professionals, retirees, or families. Its distinctive feature is the requirement to apply within a specific window—90 days before the expiration of the temporary status—which encourages proactive legal compliance and rewards those who have successfully integrated into the Peruvian system.
