Study Permit

A Study Permit is an official document issued by a national immigration authority that authorizes a foreign national to enroll and study at a designated learning institution (DLI) within that country. Unlike a standard tourist visa, which is intended for short-term visits, a study permit is specifically designed for individuals pursuing academic, professional, or vocational training for an extended period. It serves as the primary legal authorization for a student to reside in the country for the duration of their program, often including conditions regarding their enrollment status, academic progress, and potential eligibility for part-time work.

This permit is intended for international students who have been formally accepted into an accredited institution and can demonstrate the financial capacity to support themselves throughout their stay. The application process is rigorous, requiring proof of academic intent, financial stability, and adherence to immigration laws. Because a study permit is not a travel document itself, students may also need a separate entry visa or electronic travel authorization to enter the country. Maintaining the conditions of the permit—such as remaining enrolled and making satisfactory academic progress—is mandatory, as failure to do so can result in the revocation of the permit and the requirement to leave the country.
