Overview

5-year renewable residence pass for spouses and children under 18 of Malaysian permanent residents who have resided in Malaysia for 5+ years.

The Residence Pass (Category 4) is tailored for the immediate family members of individuals who have been granted Permanent Resident (PR) status in Malaysia. This category specifically covers the spouses and biological children (aged 18 and below) of PR holders, ensuring that families can remain together in Malaysia. It is a five-year, renewable pass that offers a higher level of security and residency rights than standard social visit passes, reflecting the government's recognition of the family unit's importance even when the primary resident is not yet a citizen.

To qualify for this pass, applicants must have already established a long-term presence in Malaysia, having resided in the country for at least five years on a valid long-term pass. This requirement ensures that the applicant is well-integrated into the country before transitioning to this more permanent residency status. By providing this pathway, Malaysia supports the families of its permanent residents, allowing them to build a stable life, access local services, and maintain family continuity within the country's borders.
