Professional Visit Pass (PVP)

The Professional Visit Pass (PVP) is a short-term work authorization issued by the Malaysian Immigration Department to foreign professionals who are employed by a company outside of Malaysia but required to provide services to a Malaysian host company. Historically, it has served as a flexible mechanism for international corporations to facilitate cross-border knowledge transfer, technical installations, and specialized consultancy without the administrative complexity of local employment contracts. Unlike the Employment Pass, the PVP is specifically designed for individuals who remain on their home country's payroll while fulfilling a temporary assignment.

This pass is ideal for technical experts, consultants, researchers, and interns who need to be physically present in Malaysia for a duration of up to 12 months. It is frequently utilized for niche roles such as machinery installation, specialized training, or religious duties. A key distinguishing feature of the PVP is the legal requirement that no contract of service exists between the holder and the Malaysian host company; the relationship is strictly one of a service provider or trainee being hosted by a local entity.
