Temporary Resident Visa (Residente Temporal)

Mexico's Residente Temporal, issued by the SRE under the 2011 Migration Law, is a multi-year residence permit for stays of 180 days to four years. Most applicants qualify by economic solvency — monthly tax-free income around USD 4,200+ over six months, or savings averaging USD 70,000+ over twelve months — though family, real-estate, and investment routes also qualify.

Granted for one year initially and renewable up to a four-year cap, after which holders may convert to permanent residency. The consular fee is about USD 54, plus an INM resident card from MXN 5,570 (1yr) to MXN 12,529 (4yr); consular decisions issue in 1–5 business days. Remote work for a foreign employer is permitted; Mexican employment needs separate INM authorization.
