Dependent Residence Permit

The Dependent Residence Permit (Dependent-RP) is a critical immigration instrument that allows the family members of valid Occupation Permit or Residence Permit holders to reside legally in Mauritius. This permit is designed to facilitate family reunification, ensuring that primary permit holders—such as investors, professionals, or retired non-citizens—can be accompanied by their immediate family members during their stay on the island. Eligible dependents typically include a legally married spouse or civil partner, unmarried children (including stepchildren or legally adopted children) under the age of 24, and in some cases, parents of the main permit holder. It provides a stable framework for families to live together while the primary applicant fulfills their professional or investment obligations.

The application for a Dependent Residence Permit is subject to a fee of USD 400 per dependent. It is important to note that holders of this permit are generally not permitted to engage in gainful employment or commercial activities within Mauritius. If a dependent wishes to work or operate a business, they must independently qualify for and apply for their own separate Occupation Permit or other appropriate work authorization. The validity of the Dependent-RP is directly linked to the duration of the main applicant's permit; therefore, it remains valid only as long as the primary holder maintains their legal status in the country. Applicants must provide official documentation, such as marriage or birth certificates, to verify their relationship with the primary permit holder.
