The Employment Contract Visa (HG) is the primary visa category for foreign nationals intending to work in Mongolia under a formal labor agreement. This visa is designed for individuals who have secured employment with a registered Mongolian company or organization. Because Mongolia enforces annual quotas on the number of foreign workers allowed in specific sectors, the employer plays a critical role in the application process. They must first obtain a pre-work permit from the General Authority for Labor and Social Welfare and secure approval from the Immigration Agency before the employee can apply for the visa at a Mongolian diplomatic mission abroad.

Once the HG visa is granted, it serves as the entry permit for the employee. Upon arrival in Mongolia, the process continues with mandatory registration at the Immigration Agency within seven days. The employee must then finalize their legal status by obtaining a formal work permit and a residence card. This visa is typically valid for one year and is renewable, provided the employer continues to meet the necessary regulatory requirements, including the payment of monthly workplace fees for each foreign employee hired.
