Long-stay D visa for non-EU remote workers employed by, or self-employed in, an OECD country, requiring monthly income of EUR 4,213+.
Latvia's category D long-stay remote-work visa lets third-country nationals live in Latvia while working for an OECD-registered employer or business. Issued by PMLP, it requires at least six months of prior engagement with that entity and gross monthly income of at least 2.5x Latvia's average wage (EUR 4,213 in 2026).
Valid for one year and extendable via a new D visa or by transitioning to a temporary residence permit, allowing a typical 1+1 year stay. The state fee is EUR 60 (EUR 120 urgent) and decisions are made within 15 days, or up to 60 days if extra checks are needed. Schengen-valid health insurance with EUR 42,600 coverage is required; holders cannot take local Latvian employment.
This visa is ideal for established remote employees and freelancers tied to an OECD-country employer or business who want a low-cost Schengen base and a clear path into Latvia's residence-permit system.
