Established by amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens in 2014, this temporary residence permit (TRP) was created to bridge the gap for international graduates transitioning from academic life to the Lithuanian labor market. It provides a legal framework allowing non-EU/EEA students who have successfully completed a full-time degree program at a recognized Lithuanian higher education institution to remain in the country for an additional 12 months. This period is specifically designed to facilitate the search for employment or the establishment of self-employed activities, preventing the immediate need for graduates to leave the country upon the conclusion of their studies.

This permit is intended for recent graduates who hold a valid temporary residence permit for studies at the time of their application. It is distinctive because it offers a grace period that does not require an immediate job offer, giving graduates the necessary time to secure professional positions that match their qualifications.
