Overview

Primary residency permit for foreign employees working in Kuwait's private companies, requiring employer sponsorship through the Public Authority for Manpower and Ministry of Interior.

The Private Sector Work Visa, known as the Article 18 visa, is the most common residency permit for expatriates working in Kuwait's commercial and private industries. It is designed for foreign employees hired by private companies, ranging from small businesses to large multinational corporations. This visa is the cornerstone of the private sector labor market, enabling companies to recruit international talent across diverse fields such as construction, retail, hospitality, and finance. The visa is strictly tied to the sponsoring employer, meaning the employee's legal residency status is dependent on their continued employment with that specific company.

This visa is for individuals who have successfully secured a private-sector job and have an employer willing to act as their sponsor. The process involves a multi-step procedure, starting with the employer obtaining a work permit from the Public Authority for Manpower, followed by the issuance of an entry visa, and culminating in the residency stamp and Civil ID registration upon arrival in Kuwait. Because it operates under the sponsorship system, any change in employment requires formal transfer procedures. It is a comprehensive permit that allows for long-term residency, provided the holder maintains a valid employment contract and adheres to the labor laws of the State of Kuwait.
