Overview

For foreign workers in seasonal industries such as agriculture and fisheries for up to 5 months.

The E-8 Seasonal Worker Visa is a short-term work permit designed to address acute labor shortages in South Korea's rural agricultural and fishing communities. This program allows foreign workers to enter the country for a limited period—typically up to five months, with a potential total stay of eight months—to assist with labor-intensive tasks like crop harvesting, planting, and marine product processing. The program is highly structured, relying on government-to-government MOUs or family-based recommendations to ensure that workers are placed with reputable employers who provide adequate housing and fair wages.

This visa is intended for individuals from specific countries or those with family ties to marriage immigrants in Korea who are looking for temporary employment opportunities. It provides a legal pathway for seasonal labor, ensuring that workers are protected by Korean labor laws, including minimum wage requirements and mandatory industrial accident insurance. By facilitating this temporary migration, the E-8 visa helps sustain the productivity of Korea's primary industries while offering foreign workers a chance to gain international experience and improve their financial situation.
