Overview

Workation (F-1-D) visa for remote workers earning 2x Korean GNI (~USD 65,800/yr) employed by foreign companies; 1+1 years.

Korea's F-1-D Workation visa, launched Jan 1 2024 by the Ministry of Justice, lets remote workers employed by or owning a foreign company live in Korea while continuing overseas work. Applicants must be 18+, have 1+ year in the same industry, and earn more than twice Korea's previous-year GNI per capita (~KRW 88.1M / ~USD 65,800).

The visa runs 1 year and is extendable for 1 more (max 2 years total). Fee is KRW 60,000 (~USD 45 for US citizens) and processing takes 3-4 weeks with no expedited option. Mandatory private medical insurance must cover KRW 100M. Spouses and unmarried children under 18 may accompany but cannot work locally.

This visa is ideal for remote employees and overseas business owners with strong foreign-currency income who want a 1-2 year stay in Korea without taking local jobs.
