Overview

The Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) visa under Article 27, paragraph 1, letter (a) is a specialized immigration pathway designed for multinational corporations to transfer key personnel to their Italian branches or subsidiaries. It is specifically intended for executives, managers, and highly qualified specialists who possess essential knowledge for the host entity's operations, as well as trainees seeking to advance their professional skills. By facilitating the movement of talent within a global corporate structure, this visa allows businesses to maintain operational continuity and transfer expertise across borders without being subject to the annual national immigration quota system.

This visa is ideal for international companies looking to strengthen their Italian presence by deploying experienced staff from their foreign headquarters. The process begins with the Italian host entity obtaining a 'nulla osta' (work authorization) from the local Immigration Office, after which the employee applies for the entry visa at an Italian consulate in their country of residence. Once in Italy, the worker must register with the local authorities and obtain a residence permit. The permit duration varies based on the role, typically lasting up to three years for managers and specialists, and one year for trainees, ensuring a structured and compliant temporary assignment.
