Overview

Allows transit through Icelandic airport international zones without entering the Schengen area, required for nationals of specific countries.

The Airport Transit Visa (Type A) is a specific authorization designed for travelers from certain non-Schengen countries who need to pass through the international transit zone of an Icelandic airport while en route to a non-Schengen destination. It is strictly limited to the airport's transit area and does not grant the holder permission to enter the Schengen territory or leave the airport's international zone. This visa ensures that travelers who are otherwise required to hold a visa for the Schengen area can safely change flights without violating immigration regulations.

This visa is intended for individuals whose nationality is on the common list of countries requiring airport transit visas for the Schengen area. It is not required for those who hold a valid visa or residence permit issued by an EU/EEA member state, Canada, Japan, or the United States, nor for holders of diplomatic passports or family members of EU citizens. Applicants must demonstrate that they have a confirmed onward journey and the necessary documentation to enter their final destination country.
