The X Visa, commonly referred to as the Dependent Visa, is an entry permit issued to foreign nationals who are family members of individuals residing in India on specific long-term visas, such as Employment, Business, or Student visas. This category is specifically designed to allow spouses, children, and sometimes parents to accompany the primary visa holder, thereby facilitating family reunification during the primary applicant's stay in India. The duration of the X visa is typically linked to the validity of the primary applicant's visa, ensuring that the family unit can remain together for the duration of the authorized assignment or study period.

Applicants for the X dependent visa must provide comprehensive documentation to establish their familial relationship, such as marriage certificates for spouses or birth certificates for children. Additionally, they must submit proof of the primary visa holder's legal status in India, including copies of their visa and, if applicable, their registration documents with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO). Depending on the duration of the intended stay, holders of an X visa may be required to register with the local FRRO/FRO authorities within a specified timeframe after arrival, particularly if their stay exceeds 180 days.
