Official Information

Overview

Regular medical visa for treatment at recognized hospitals. Valid for 1 year or treatment duration, whichever is less. Obtained through embassy.

The Medical Visa is a dedicated category for foreign nationals seeking specialized medical treatment at recognized and accredited hospitals in India. This visa is designed to facilitate access to world-class healthcare for patients suffering from serious medical conditions, such as cardiac issues, organ transplants, oncology treatments, or orthopedic surgeries. It is typically issued for up to one year or the duration of the treatment, whichever is shorter, and allows for multiple entries to accommodate follow-up appointments or extended therapy. Applicants must provide a formal invitation letter from a recognized Indian hospital, medical reports, and a recommendation from a local doctor in their home country to substantiate the necessity of the treatment.

To ensure a smooth process, patients may also be accompanied by up to two medical attendants, who apply under a separate Medical Attendant Visa linked to the primary patient's visa. Upon arrival, it is mandatory for medical visa holders to register with the local Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days. The visa fee is USD 70, and the processing time is generally efficient, often taking only a few working days once all required medical documentation is submitted. This visa provides a structured and reliable pathway for international patients to receive timely and high-quality medical care, ensuring that both the patient and their caregivers are legally permitted to stay for the duration of the recovery and treatment plan.
