Overview

Temporary stay permit (1-2 years) for foreign nationals married to Indonesian citizens, allowing residence and path to permanent stay.

The Spouse of Indonesian Citizen Visa (Index E31A), commonly known as a Family KITAS, is a temporary stay permit granted to foreign nationals who are legally married to Indonesian citizens. This visa is designed to facilitate family reunification, allowing the foreign spouse to reside in Indonesia legally alongside their partner. It is one of the most stable long-term residency options for foreigners, providing a pathway to a more permanent stay status, such as the KITAP (Permanent Stay Permit), after meeting specific duration requirements of continuous marriage and residency.

This visa is for individuals in a valid, legally registered marriage with an Indonesian national. The application process requires the Indonesian spouse to act as the sponsor. While the visa allows the holder to live in Indonesia, travel freely in and out of the country, and engage in tourism or family visits, it does not automatically grant the right to work. To engage in employment, the holder must obtain a separate work permit through an Indonesian company. The visa is typically issued for 1 or 2 years and is renewable, provided the marital status remains valid and registered.
