Overview

Permanent residence for citizens of Central American countries who have held temporary residence in Guatemala for at least one year.

The GT-RP-CA visa is a dedicated permanent residency classification for citizens of Central American countries. This program reflects the regional integration efforts and the close bilateral ties between Guatemala and its neighbors. It is specifically designed for citizens of Central American nations who have already held temporary residency status in Guatemala and wish to transition to a permanent arrangement. By establishing a history of lawful temporary residence, these individuals can demonstrate their commitment to the country and their stable integration into the local community, making them eligible for the more secure and long-term benefits of permanent residency.

Applicants under this category must adhere to the standard administrative procedures, which include maintaining a valid passport, providing a clean criminal background check, and fulfilling the necessary registration requirements with the Guatemalan Institute of Migration (IGM). The process is streamlined for regional neighbors, acknowledging the historical and economic interconnectedness of the Central American region. Once permanent residency is granted, these individuals enjoy the right to live indefinitely in Guatemala, providing them with greater freedom and security. This status is an essential step for those looking to build a long-term future in Guatemala while maintaining their regional heritage.
