Overview

Temporary work permit valid for up to 6 months for short-duration assignments, project-based work, or temporary postings in Ghana.

The Ghana Short-Term Work Permit is a specialized authorization designed for foreign nationals who need to perform specific, time-bound professional tasks in Ghana for a period not exceeding six months. This permit is strictly non-renewable and is intended for activities such as short-term technical assignments, consultancy, or project-based work. Because it is a temporary status, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) places significant emphasis on verifying the genuine nature of the assignment and ensuring that the applicant does not intend to establish long-term residency through this route.

This permit is ideal for international professionals, consultants, or technical experts sent by their home offices to support Ghanaian operations. Applicants must be sponsored by a registered Ghanaian entity, which takes responsibility for the applicant's compliance with local laws. The process requires rigorous documentation, including proof of the employer's tax compliance and, in regulated industries like oil, gas, or mining, additional clearances from sector-specific commissions. It is a mandatory requirement that this permit be secured before the individual begins any work activities within the country.
