Overview

The UK Fiancé(e) or Proposed Civil Partner visa lets a foreign national enter the UK to marry or enter a civil partnership with a British citizen or settled person. Both partners must be at least 18, prove their relationship is genuine, and meet a minimum combined gross annual income of £29,000.

The visa grants up to 6 months in the UK, during which work and study are prohibited. After the ceremony, the holder must switch to a Spouse visa — which unlocks the right to work and starts the 5-year pathway to Indefinite Leave to Remain. No Immigration Health Surcharge applies at this stage.

This visa is ideal for foreign nationals in a committed relationship with a UK-based partner who are ready to marry in the UK and transition into long-term settlement.
