Overview

Six-month renewable residence permit for asylum seekers registered with UNHCR Egypt who hold a Yellow Card valid for 18 months, obtained through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reference process.

The Asylum Seeker Residence Permit, linked to the 'Yellow Card' issued by the UNHCR, is a temporary legal status provided to individuals who have officially applied for refugee status in Egypt. This permit is part of the administrative framework that allows asylum seekers to reside legally while their claims for refugee status are being processed. It fills the gap by providing immediate, temporary protection from deportation and a legal basis for staying in the country, ensuring that applicants can remain in Egypt while their cases are under consideration by the UNHCR.

This permit is for individuals who have initiated the asylum process and are registered with the UNHCR, holding a valid 'Yellow Card'. It is a temporary, renewable status that serves as proof of a pending asylum claim. The permit is distinct because it is strictly tied to the ongoing status determination process; if an application is rejected, the status may change. It is an essential tool for protecting vulnerable individuals during the often lengthy period of waiting for a final decision on their refugee status, granting them a temporary, legal, and renewable right to stay in Egypt.
