Overview

The Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) is a points-based residence permit that allows skilled and semi-skilled workers from third countries to enter Germany to seek qualified employment.

The Chancenkarte is a German points-based residence permit letting qualified non-EU workers enter to seek work without a job offer. Applicants need a recognised vocational or degree qualification and at least 6 points on a grid covering language, experience, age, and prior Germany connections.

Valid for up to 12 months; part-time work up to 20 hours per week is allowed. Holders must prove €1,091/month in funds (around €13,092 total). Spouses cannot accompany unless they independently qualify for their own card. On securing qualified employment, holders convert to a standard skilled-worker permit.

This visa is ideal for qualified non-EU professionals who want to job-hunt in Germany without a job offer and can demonstrate German A1 or English B2 proficiency and sufficient savings.
