Freelance Visa

The German Freelance Visa (Freiberufler) is for self-employed professionals in liberal fields — doctors, architects, engineers, artists, writers — working independently. Applicants must show professional qualifications, a viable business plan, and financial self-sufficiency. No employer or job offer is required.

Permits run up to 3 years and are renewable; a settlement permit (permanent residence) is available after proven successful self-employment. Spouses join via family reunification with unrestricted work rights. Processing takes 42–90 days; permit fee is €56 (sticker) or €100 (electronic).

This visa is ideal for qualified freelancers — artists, doctors, consultants, or engineers — who can demonstrate a sustainable client base and want a path to German permanent residence.
