Official Information

Overview

Long-term visa for professional or semi-professional athletes, coaches, or sports staff engaged in sports activities exceeding 90 days.

The Long-Term Visa for Sports Activities is specifically designed for professional athletes from third countries who have been recruited to compete in professional sports leagues within the Czech Republic. This visa category is strictly limited to those engaged in professional-level competition as recognized by the relevant national sports union. It is not intended for amateur athletes, coaches, sports physiotherapists, or support staff, who are generally expected to pursue other visa pathways such as the employee card or business visa. The applicant must demonstrate a formal contract with a sports club that specifies the nature of their professional activity and guarantees a monthly salary at least equal to the Czech minimum wage.

This visa allows for a stay of up to one year and is intended for individuals whose primary purpose of residence is to fulfill their professional sports commitments. Applicants must provide comprehensive documentation, including proof of their professional status, financial stability, and adequate medical insurance. Because this visa is tied to professional sports, the documentation must clearly show that the competition is recognized as professional by the governing sports body in the Czech Republic. The application process requires an in-person visit to a Czech diplomatic mission, where the applicant must submit all required documents, including criminal record checks and proof of accommodation, to ensure they meet the legal requirements for long-term residency.
