Permanent Residence for EU Citizen's Family Member (Trvalý pobyt rodinného příslušníka občana EU)

This permit is established under the Czech Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals to provide permanent security to non-EU family members of EU citizens. It fulfills the legislative goal of ensuring that once a family unit has integrated into the Czech Republic over a significant period, they are granted a stable, long-term status that is no longer contingent on the ongoing temporary residence of their EU relative. It serves as the natural progression from the temporary residence permit, rewarding long-term, continuous legal presence.

It is for non-EU/EEA nationals who have been living in the Czech Republic as family members of an EU citizen. The standard path requires five years of continuous residence; however, a key distinctive feature is the accelerated eligibility for 'close' family members, who may apply after just two years if their EU or Czech relative already holds permanent residence. This permit provides the holder with a secure, long-term status, exempting them from many of the administrative burdens associated with temporary permits and granting broader access to the labor market and social benefits.
