Cabo Verde's Remote Working Program launched in December 2020 as one of Africa's first dedicated digital nomad routes, created to leverage the islands' stability and connectivity for location-independent professionals. It grants a temporary stay for self-employed workers and remote employees earning outside the archipelago.
The permit runs for six months and is renewable once, capping the total stay at one year. Applicants pay a EUR 20 visa fee plus a EUR 34 airport security tax on arrival, and must show an average bank balance of EUR 1,500 per month (EUR 2,700 for families). Health insurance and accommodation proof are mandatory, and foreign income is tax-exempt while in country.
This visa is ideal for freelancers, remote employees and digital entrepreneurs from Europe, North America, CPLP or ECOWAS countries seeking a tropical, English-friendly base for six months to a year.
