Overview

Temporary residency for scientists, specialized professionals, and technicians with expertise needed in Costa Rica.

The Scientific and Specialized Professional Residency is designed for foreign nationals who possess high-level technical or intellectual skills and are recruited to contribute to Costa Rica's development. This category is specifically for individuals whose expertise is required by local entities, including private companies, academic institutions, government agencies, or non-governmental organizations. It serves as a bridge for professionals to legally reside and work in the country while contributing their specialized knowledge to the local economy or research landscape.

To qualify, the applicant must demonstrate a clear link to a sponsoring organization in Costa Rica that validates the necessity of their presence. The process requires significant documentation from both the applicant and the sponsoring entity, including proof of the company's financial health and tax compliance. This visa is an excellent option for experts, researchers, and technicians who have secured a position or project in Costa Rica and wish to establish a formal, long-term legal presence to carry out their professional duties.
