Overview

Temporary residency for executives, managers, representatives, and technical personnel transferred by their company to Costa Rica.

The Executive & Transfer Personnel Permit (Residencia Temporal — Ejecutivos, Representantes, Gerentes y Personal Técnico) is a specialized immigration category established under the framework of Costa Rica’s General Law of Migration and Foreigners (Law No. 8764). This permit addresses the specific needs of multinational corporations and foreign entities operating within Costa Rica that require the temporary relocation of high-level personnel. By facilitating the movement of essential staff, this permit ensures that local subsidiaries or branches can maintain operational continuity and benefit from the expertise of specialized international employees.

This permit is intended for executives, managers, legal representatives, and technical specialists who are being transferred to a Costa Rican entity. The ideal applicant is a professional with unique skills or leadership responsibilities that are critical to the company's local operations. What makes this permit distinctive is its tie to a specific employment contract and the requirement for the sponsoring company to be duly registered in Costa Rica. It is a vital tool for companies seeking to integrate their global workforce into their Costa Rican operations while ensuring full compliance with national labor and immigration regulations.
