Overview

Visa-free transit entry for 240 hours (10 days) at eligible ports in 24 provinces. Citizens of 55 countries can transit through China without a visa when traveling to a third destination.

The 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit policy is a strategic initiative implemented by the Chinese government to enhance international connectivity and promote regional tourism and business exchange. Established to simplify travel for international passengers, this policy allows eligible foreign nationals to enter China without a traditional visa when they are in transit to a third country or region. It fills the gap for travelers who wish to explore multiple cities or provinces during a short layover, moving beyond the limitations of previous, shorter-duration transit schemes to encourage longer stays and greater economic engagement.

This program is designed for citizens of 55 designated countries who hold valid international travel documents and confirmed onward tickets to a third country within 240 hours. It is ideal for international travelers, including tourists and business professionals, who are passing through China and wish to visit any of the participating 24 provinces. What makes this policy distinctive is the flexibility it provides, allowing travelers to enter and exit through over 60 eligible ports and move freely within the approved provincial regions, provided they adhere to the strict transit requirements.
