The Côte d'Ivoire transit visa is a short-duration entry permit specifically created for travelers passing through the country en route to a final international destination. It serves as a necessary administrative bridge for passengers who must exit the international transit area of the airport—for example, to collect luggage, check in for a separate flight, or stay in a hotel during a layover. By providing this specific category, the authorities ensure that travelers with short-term, non-visiting intentions can legally and safely navigate the country's border controls while maintaining security.

This visa is intended for travelers with a confirmed onward flight ticket to a third country who need to pass through Ivorian immigration. It is not meant for tourism or business activities. The primary requirement is proof of travel to a final destination, such as an onward flight itinerary and, where applicable, a visa for that destination. Its distinctive purpose is to facilitate smooth, temporary movement for transit passengers, ensuring they remain in the country only for the duration required to connect to their next flight.
