PRTD — Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD)

The PRTD is a Canadian single-entry travel document issued to permanent residents who are outside Canada without a valid PR card. It confirms existing PR status and allows the holder to board a commercial carrier bound for Canada.

To qualify, you must satisfy Canada's PR residency obligation. The $50 CAD fee is paid at application via the Permanent Residence Portal (form IMM 5444). IRCC prioritizes PRTD applications but does not publish a fixed processing timeline.

This visa is ideal for permanent residents stranded abroad with an expired, lost, or damaged PR card who need to board a commercial carrier back to Canada.
