Overview

Permit for workers to register through approved Labour Registration Centres to practice a skilled activity and obtain a work card without a specific employer sponsor.

The Registered Worker Permit is a unique authorization established by the LMRA to regularize the status of expatriate workers already present in the Kingdom. Introduced as part of broader labor market reforms, this permit fills the gap for individuals whose previous work permits have been terminated or expired, allowing them to continue working legally without being tied to a single, traditional employer. By utilizing Approved Labour Registration Centres, the government provides a pathway for these workers to maintain their legal residency and employment status while ensuring they remain under the oversight of the national labor regulatory system.

This permit is for individuals already residing in Bahrain who have a terminated work permit and wish to practice a skilled activity. It is ideal for workers who have transitioned out of a previous employment contract but wish to remain in the country and work independently. It is highly distinctive because it allows for a form of self-sponsorship through a registered center, bypassing the traditional single-employer model. Applicants must have no criminal records or absconding offenses, and the permit provides a vital, legal mechanism for workers to contribute to the economy while maintaining their status.
