Overview

The Temporary Residence Permit for Scientific Research is a specialized visa category designed for foreign researchers, scientists, and experts participating in research projects deemed relevant to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This permit is intended for individuals who are invited by local scientific or research institutions to conduct professional work, including university professors, researchers involved in international scientific missions, or experts engaged in projects supported by the Council of Ministers. It facilitates the legal stay of highly skilled professionals who contribute to the academic and scientific development of the country, ensuring that their presence is formalized through a structured agreement with a host institution that takes responsibility for their welfare and financial support during their tenure.

To qualify, applicants must demonstrate their academic credentials, specifically holding qualifications that would grant them access to doctoral-level studies, and provide evidence of their expertise in the specific field of the research project. The application process is rigorous, requiring a formal contract with a Bosnian research organization that guarantees the researcher's subsistence, health insurance, and accommodation. The permit is typically granted for the duration of the research engagement, up to a maximum of one year, with the possibility of extension if the research project continues. This visa is a vital tool for fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange, allowing foreign experts to integrate into the Bosnian scientific community while maintaining full compliance with national immigration laws.
