Overview

The Contributory Aged Parent (subclass 864) is an Australian permanent visa for parents of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens settled in Australia. Applicants must be aged 67 or older, pass the Balance of Family test, and be physically in Australia when applying.

The visa grants permanent residence with no stay limit. Fees total AUD 48,640 — paid as AUD 5,040 upfront and AUD 43,600 on approval — plus an Assurance of Support bond of AUD 10,000. Processing is subject to capping and queueing, with new applications facing at least 12 years wait.

This visa is ideal for aged parents of Australians who are in Australia, meet the Age Pension threshold, and can commit to the substantial upfront costs and lengthy queue wait.
